Step 1: Technical Program Committee Issues Call For Papers
During the 2009 Water Professionals Conference, the Technical Program Committee will issue a “Call For Papers” inviting interested individuals to submit an abstract for a proposed presentation the following year. The “Call For Paper” invitation will be open through December 18, 2009.
Step 2: Abstract Submittal
All abstract submissions should be on the one-page “Abstracts” form available on the websites. Abstracts must clearly define the objectives of the investigation or study, the status of the investigation or study, what was accomplished or learned, what conclusions were drawn and what the findings mean to the water and/or wastewater industry. All presentations should focus on the areas described and not on a product or equipment sales.
Criteria for selection includes:
* Originality
* Technical Content
* Benefits, Significance and Timeliness
* Quality
* Status of Investigation or Study
Note: Preference may be given to abstracts that cover topics of interest to systems in Kentucky and/or Tennessee. In cases where multiple abstracts are received on a similar topic, preference may be given to those submitted by local AWWA Section or WEA members.
Abstracts must be submitted by the due date identified on the “Abstracts” form in order to be considered.
Step 3: Abstract Selection
Following the abstract submittal deadline, the Technical Program Committee will review all abstracts and make selections based on the criteria listed above, and according to the number of session slots available. The committee chairs will then notify authors of tentative selection within two months of the abstract deadline date. Notification of final acceptance is contingent upon receipt of the full paper in electronic format (Microsoft Word or Adobe pdf) according to requirements outlined in the “Presentation Submittal” form available on our websites.
Step 4: “Presentation Background” Form
Upon notification that an abstract has been tentatively selected for the conference, presenters will be asked to confirm their availability to present as well as complete an important “Bio Submittal” form. This form will collect author/presenter information, introductory information to be used by the session moderator, and details regarding equipment needs. This form should be submitted within two weeks of notification of the abstract acceptance.
Step 5: Conference Proceedings Finalized
An important benefit to conference attendees is availability of presentation abstracts and/or manuscripts or PowerPoint presentations on the website. Presenters are not required to submit presentations for the WPC website, however, it offers an excellent vehicle to reach conference attendees. Several format and file size requirements pertain to documents for the Conference Proceedings. These can be found on the form “Presentation Submittal” form available on our website.
Step 6: PowerPoint Presentations Submitted
While new technology offers a host of opportunities and capabilities, it can also put the conference at a standstill when PowerPoint presentations don’t work; projectors are out of sync, etc. To minimize these problems, the committee has developed easy to follow rules for presentation format and file size. The committee also requires that all presenters submit their finalized PowerPoint presentations to either of the co-chairs by the due date stipulated so that they can be loaded, in advance, on a conference laptop for use during the session. Details regarding format requirements, presentation guidance, and submittal deadlines can be found on the “Presentation Submittal” form located on our websites.
